Am I my soul's sleeping bag? (2018)

For my graduation project, I focused on garment-memory: clothes that are kept even when no longer worn, because they are full of stories. In my approach to clothing, I often collect and repurpose garments and objects that do not originally belong to me. Coming from flea markets or having belonged to a family member, they acquire the status of objects through their symbolic and esoteric value. I conceived this collection as a moment of reappropriation, when these garments are actually worn. The gestures become awkward and frozen, and the garments appear filled, ill-fitting, or hollowed out.

In my work, research is paramount, as it is the moment when I create a kind of formal database. During this stage, I experiment very spontaneously, using various elements I have on hand. For the collection, I worked with my own memory wardrobe as a base, along with jersey scraps, a life jacket, a bag of oranges, and more. I chose to create an aesthetic by keeping and reinterpreting these heterogeneous elements, which originate from what was initially unintentional. The object becomes a relic, and the garment transforms into a kind of shedding.
